Keith was born in Zanesville, Ohio on October 8, 1954 to Joy Lou (Self) and Mernice Eugene Savage. Keith’s family moved to Toledo when he was 5 years old and lived in the Toledo area his entire life. He graduated from Whitmer High School in 1973. He began a 40 year career at The Toledo Hospital in 1972, starting in the Dietary Department, then moving to the Security Department where he held a supervisor position for 37 years. He also enjoyed being involved in a variety of sports leagues sponsored by the hospital, including bowling, softball and volleyball. During his career at The Toledo Hospital, he provided security for hospital sponsored events for a variety of celebrities that included Danny Glover, Richard Simmons, Gordie Howe and Gayle Sayers. Keith received the Employee of the Year Award in 2004.
Keith was a devoted father to his children. He enjoyed watching his son Jeremy play high school and college football, and his daughter Jessica play high school basketball and volleyball. He was his youngest son Brandon’s “best buddy” and they enjoyed playing putt-putt golf together before Brandon passed away in 2011. Also in his spare time, Keith enjoyed playing Santa during his younger years at hospital sponsored events, in the community and family Christmas gatherings.
Keith was an avid Ohio State fan and enjoyed a friendly rivalry with his long time best friend Tom Bedell, who is an avid Michigan fan.
In addition to his beloved son Brandon, he is preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Valerie Mazza and brother-in-law Ron Cox.
Keith is survived by his son Jeremy (Vicky) Vanisacker, daughter Jessica (Johnny) Goodwin and his former wife, Ann. He is also survived by his step-mother, Barbara Savage; siblings Marsha (Mark) Nightingale, Christopher (Jenn) Savage, Lynne (Brian) Dwyre. In addition, Keith is survived by nieces, Sarah Rieger and Grace Hill; nephews Jack Cox, Ethan and Noah Savage; uncle Harold (Nancy) Savage and cousins Allison and Kristin Savage. He will also be deeply missed by many other relatives.
Visitation will be from 3-8 pm, Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where funeral services will be held, at 10:00 am, Friday, January 6, 2017. Burial will follow at LaSalle Township Cemetery.
